Delivery food to the hospital?

“My carrots taste like plastic…” Yes, those words have flowed from my mouth. Yuck. There is nothing worse than being stuck in a hospital and even worse when its your child’s admission. Completely speaking from experience (I am in the hospital with my son as I am typing this). You have to take care of yourself in order to take care of others. It’s hard to feel at home in a hospital but there are ways to make you feel more comfortable. I don’t know about you but good food that warms my belly, warms my heart.

I recently discovered an app called EAT24. Available via App Store. This app is amazing! If you don’t believe me go download it right now, and see for yourself. It’s free, and you can type in what you are craving. The customer service is amazing. If my food hasn’t arrived or I have a question, you can quickly ask via chat window and a very friendly person will help you.

I actually pay around the same amount I would if I were buying food in the hospital cafeteria, for food that is gross and repetitive.

Here are the steps ( to make it easier for you, because I care lol)

1. Download EAT24 from App Store

2. Make sure your privacy setting let the app find your location ( or manually type it in)

3. Select which restaurant you want to order from, then select delivery

4. Once you click check out, a window will pop up showing what you are about to order. At the top there is a box you can type in. This is what my message says “Once in lobby, please call 555-555-5555 and I will come down to you.” Usually delivery guys can’t come straight to the room. So it’s best to give them those instruction, just make sure your cell phone volume is up…(I learned the hard way lol)

5. You can choose your method of pay. Debit/Credit, PayPal, or cash.

6. Once you submit your order, you can click “check order status” and it will show a timer so you know how soon your food should be coming.

7. If for some reason things are taking longer than they should, click the button under the timer that says “ message EAT 24” and someone can check on it for you.

Hope I have helped your stay at your “Home away from home” just a tad more comfortable! Enjoy…

“How to be a HAPPY special needs parent”

Working as a team.

  1. My husband and I came up with a genius sleep schedule, and may not work for everybody, but to keep everyone happy (including Mommy) sleep is important. Since I am a stay at home mom I get up during the week days at night whenever Conner is having seizures, or whatever the issue is. On the weekends my husband takes over Friday and Saturday night. I use ear plugs to have a quiet peaceful sleep and even though it’s only two nights, it does make a huge difference!
  2. Stop keeping count of who last did what. My husband and I have done this a lot in the past. “Babe, can you please give Conner his medicine?” “But I fed him all night I thought you would do it.” “But I have to take a shower and get ready to take him to the doctor” STOP IT! All that matters is, is you are each equally contributing to your child’s needs. This will save a lot of arguments! 😉 If you know something needs to be done, why not buck up and just get it done if you can.
  3. Having disagreements when it comes to your child is only natural, but its best to express your opinion lovingly. When Joel and I were new special needs parents, Joel thought I was over reacting every time Conner did something weird. I sat him down and told him WHY I did this. I explained to him that the constant worry I was experiencing was taking its toll, and the only way I could cope was to make sure I did my very best at being in tune with Conner and if I was over reacting, I felt that it was better to be safe than sorry. After a while Joel saw that sometimes if I hadn’t been worried about it, things could have taking a turn for the worst. I don’t mean the wife is always right, sometimes the father can be right too lol, there have been lots of times when Joel had to explain how he felt about a situation. Give each other a chance to speak up, but never belittle each other in front of family, friends, or medical staff. Stay on the same page as much as possible. Come up with a plan for each situation that may arise. It will help things go smoother. That I promise!

Say no! Those of you that know me…you are going to think “Huh, she should listen to her own advice!” This is so true, but I have learned that when I say “No” to extra things I know I am doing myself a favor. I love helping people out because it helps me get my mind off of my own stress, and I know people appreciate the help! There are times though I say “Yes” too often and I end up becoming overwhelmed. So on top of taking care of my special needs son, my 4 year old daughter, being a wife, and a busy Christian (Jehovah’s Witness), I choose to put too much on myself and I just crumble under the pressure. DON’T DO THIS TO YOURSELF. Know your limits. Your friends and family will understand…

Beautiful inside and out. To begin with, being a special needs parent automatically makes you beautiful inside. What about outside? I’m not talking perfection here… BUT! Have you noticed when you put extra effort towards your hair and makeup it actually benefits you more than others? (Of course, I am doing everyone a favor by putting my face on, otherwise I would be ran out of town with pitchforks lol) I have noticed whenever I take a few extra minutes on my makeup, I feel at least 2x better than if I don’t. There is nothing wrong with sweats, messy buns, and naked faces! I am all for that! Try dedicating more time tomorrow for getting ready and see how you feel.

Romance. Why is romance important? Well that should be obvious! See my other blog…http://onerummymother.com/2015/01/13/never-neglect-date-nights-again/

Quiet time. Of course you all know I am a HUGE Quiet time advocate! See my other blog….http://onerummymother.com/2015/01/21/mommy-needs-quiet-time/

Ask for help. Don’t ever be ashamed to ask for help. We all need help time to time. I couldn’t be a special needs mom without the help of my family, friends, and support groups. Knowing you have people there to help you will put your mind at ease. If you keep trying to take on the world alone, you will fall apart, but with support, your peeps will keep you strong when you most need it. Even when you don’t need them, just knowing they are there for you can be really comforting.

Night out with friends. I try to make this a monthly priority. For you special needs moms and dads, you have got to take time away from home to be with your friends, and try your best not talk about your kids. Though it may be hard because they consume every second of the day usually and love them so much, but having some normal conversations is healthy and it’s okay, don’t feel bad. Remember, if you aren’t happy then your kids won’t be happy. Make time for you and your friends to just hang out.

Online support group. Since my son was first hospitalized I connected with other parents online via Facebook, Inspire, etc… The support was at times overwhelming! I would post about a bad day and I would instantly have over 20 comments posted. All to encourage and to keep us going. At times, I know you agree, you don’t even answer your family’s phone calls. Somehow getting online is my favorite way of receiving support. Not that my family doesn’t give great support because they do, but accessing the internet and talking with other parents saves my voice from cracking and emotional break downs over the phone, which I avoid at all costs. LOL

Dedicated family time. Family time, I know, can seem rare because of all the stress from therapy, doctor appointments, just everyday life with a special needs child but just take a moment to clear your mind and ask yourself these questions “How can I be happy?” This is one of my favorite quotes “Happiness is letting go of what you think your life is supposed to be like and celebrating it for everything that it is”- Mandy hale. We get so caught up with our busy lives that we forget what life is all about. My favorite thing to do is just sit and watch my kids play on the floor. I always think to myself how much time flies. I have to gobble up all of this cuteness and enjoy time with my family. We shut the TV off, and our phones and just relax, and listen to your kids play. That is how I celebrate the life I have. I listen… Also see http://onerummymother.com/2015/01/20/how-to-find-happiness-after-life-hands-your-family-lemons/

Time to Upgrade yours child’s immune system

Time to Upgrade yours child’s immune system

Sometimes our computers pick up virus’ that can slow down it’s thinking. The best way to keep this from happening is to download a good anti-virus. The same can be likened to your child and self! We can easily pick up nasty germs from grocery carts, door handles etc…Here are a few ways to upgrade your child’s “anti-virus program” Immune system.

  1. Enough Sleep.

There is an old wives tale that says “If you don’t sleep well, you will get sick” This statement is actually true! Our immune system is designed to protect us from colds, flu, and other ailments, but when it is not working properly, it fails to do its job. The results can be awful!

“A lot of studies show our T-cells go down if we are sleep deprived,” Balachandran says. “And inflammatory cytokines go up. … This could potentially lead to the greater risk of developing a cold or flu.” What are T-cells? It is a cell that participates in the immune response.

Not enough sleep can suppress immune system function. So try putting your kids to bed maybe a little earlier? And if you haven’t established a bed time routine, you’re crazy! LOL

  1. Essential Oils.

Thieves’ oil. Thieves is a blend of essential oils including Clove, Lemon, Cinnamon bark, Eucalyptus and Rosemary. I rub 2-3 drops undiluted on the bottoms of our feet daily. You can also diffuse it! Here is the link to go get some delivered to your door! It is called OnGuard through this website. http://www.doterra-aromatics.com/products/blends/onGuard.html

3. Probiotics.

Our bodies are filled with billions of types of bacteria that help fight off infections and maintain healthy organs. Consuming the right kind of bacteria can actually help your immune system. Probiotics are a good bacteria that can benefit you in a lot of way. What foods are filled with probiotics? Organic yogurt, Miso, Kefir, Kampuchea, Fermented Cheeses, and Fermented Vegetables are some of the foods I am aware of.

  1. Fruits & Veggies.

Here are a few great foods to eat with great immune system benefits. Kiwi, Garlic, spinach, carrots, mushrooms, sweet potatoes, and berries.

It’s obviously difficult to get our kiddos to eat just anything. My favorite way to get my little one to eat them is by only setting their veggies and fruits on the plate first. They must eat all of their veggies and fruits before they receive the rest of their meal. Obviously everyone has different likes and dislikes. I don’t believe in pushing children to like something they just don’t. I have my likes and dislikes. I wouldn’t like anyone telling me I have to eat something I hate, but there is a limit. If your child is straight up rejecting quite a few fruits and veggies just keep offering it. Don’t make a huge deal, and make them feel bad for not eating it. This can result in the opposite of the direction you would like to go.

  1. Toss those chemicals!!

Prolonged and excessive consumption of refined sugars and highly processed foods containing pesticides, chemical additives, and preservatives can weaken the immune system and make you vulnerable to developing chronic conditions.

A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that the ability of white blood cells to kill bacteria is significantly hampered for up to 5 hours after eating 100 gm of sugar (equivalent to three cans of sweetened soft drink).

So go walk to your kitchen and toss that crap stuff away!

  1. Get moving!

When you exercise regularly with your kiddos, there are a number of things that benefit yours and their body. Your heart gets stronger and is able to pump more blood throughout your body when you exercise. Your lungs get better equipped at handling oxygen and dishing it out to the rest of your body. Your muscles also get stronger as you use them more often. Your child’s immune system is no different.

Doctors have found that exercise can boost your immune system by providing a boost to the cells in your body that are assigned to attack bacteria. These cells appear to work more slowly in kids who don’t exercise than in those that do.

  1. Vitamin D

You may find it surprising that vitamin D is so important for your health, especially if you’re still under the impression that it’s mostly a nutrient for your bones. Most people also think that vitamin D is really a vitamin, but in reality, the active form of vitamin D is one of the most potent hormones in your body, and regulates more genes and bodily functions than any other hormone yet discovered. Vitamin D is produced as a pro-hormone in your skin after sunlight exposure, and is then converted to the potent hormone form. Without this hormone, you could die, and indeed, many do die from vitamin D deficiency-related causes.

A Japanese study showed that school children taking vitamin D3 supplements were 58 percent less likely to catch influenza A. That’s a higher effectiveness than any flu vaccine can claim, and doesn’t come with a barrage of potentially devastating side effects! And there are numerous studies like these, showing the superior effectiveness of natural strategies like vitamin D in the prevention of disease.

  1. Get those hands clean.

Keeping hands clean is one of the most important steps we can take to avoid getting sick and spreading germs to others. Many diseases and conditions are spread by not washing hands with soap and clean, running water.

  1. Play in the dirt.

Exposure to dirt and other microbes make our immune systems stronger. It’s okay to let your toddler eat dirt and kiss the dog. A new mouse study suggests early exposure to microbes is essential for normal immune development, supporting the so-called “hygiene hypothesis” which states that lack of such exposure leads to an increased risk of autoimmune diseases. The study found that early-life microbe exposure lowers the number of inflammatory immune cells in the lungs and colon, lowering susceptibility to asthma and inflammatory bowel diseases later in life.

Mommy needs quiet time

Definition of QUIET TIME: It’s the time when Mommy’s blood is turned down to simmer.

I am a mother of a 4-year-old and a 2-year-old special needs child. I also suffer from CD, so quiet time, for me, is a must. Every home/family is different, but reading this will show you how important it is for you and your child to have quiet time, and how you can accomplish it. Use that time to do whatever your heart desires. Get some rest, watch some TV, or read. Whatever, but this is YOUR time. HAPPY QUIET TIME!

First of all, just because you are feeling in desperate need of quiet time, does not mean you are a bad parent. You need to let go of the guilt and realize that having a break is necessary because you can regain your patience. Have you noticed, some days with your kids just make you so impatient that you just automatically start answering “NO!” to everything? It time for a break… Children also need quiet time for them to relax and wind down a bit.

What is my strategy?

CONSISTENCY & ROUTINE…It is best to start training your kiddos as early as possible. I knew from early on, with my first child, that I had to establish a break for myself daily. Stick with your quiet time plan!

Most children refuse to take naps, but I make it inviting. I say something like “Lacie, you don’t need to take a nap, but you have to play quietly. Maybe do some puzzles or color?” Because my child is so used to this being a daily thing, she knows what quiet time means. I bring her into her room with a Sippy cup of water. I tell her to please play quietly so Mommy can rest. She knows the only reason she comes out of her room is to go potty or if something is wrong. Usually I will take this opportunity to take a cat nap. If she does end up needing the bathroom, she will stand at her door and yell “Mom can I go potty?” “NO!” Just kidding LOL.

Because my delayed son is so well-behaved, I can put him in his play pin for an hour with a few toys and he will be so happy!

I know Lacie is safe in her bedroom because it is childproofed. Plugs covered, windows locked etc…I know she is safe. Of course you wouldn’t want to do something stupid like stick ear plugs in to sleep, you need to be able to hear if anything happens while you are napping or relaxing. I am a very light sleeper but I also have a baby monitor hooked up to hear if she opens her door.

I hope you find this strategy helpful, please comment below if you have found other ways helpful! Thanks for reading! Please follow & share…

How to find happiness after life hands your family lemons…

My family has definitely been handed a bunch of lemons but somehow we still pull through stronger than before. What is our secret? Read more to find out.

Get Fit. “Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Happy people just don’t shoot their husbands. They just don’t!” -Legally Blonde

Quality Family Time. Obviously spending time with your family is a given, but even just sitting on your couch, watching, and enjoying every moment you have with your children or your loved ones, it can help you to feel pretty fulfilled and content. That what I find anyway…I love watching my husband play on the floor with my kids. It makes me feel so blessed that 1. I have a great husband. 2. He is a great dad. 3. My kids love him so much. + 10 Happiness

No TV Sunday. This is something that I have been trying to establish for my family. We have done this 3 times so far and we love it! Of course it gets irritating at times because when you get bored your first instinct is to turn a power button on, right? This is a great way to dedicate, again, Quality Family Time together. We do this usually on Sundays when my husband is off of work. We usually make a big breakfast and chat. We catch up and visit. + 10 Happiness

Outside Tuesday. It’s awesome how fast your mood can change just by stepping outside into the fresh air. Not that you are in a bad mood, calm down! LOL Pick a day as a family to go outside and do something fun. Go kick a ball around, or play Frisbee! + 10 Happiness

Hobbies. Either finding a hobby as an individual or as a family can be healing. I actually find coloring very therapeutic and calming. My daughter and I do this a lot, and puzzles. Finishing a project together is fun, and it teaches kids not to give up. +10 Happiness

Shut off the news! This one should be a no brainer… 90% of the time, the only things casted on the news is horrible, sad, depressing things. We know this world sucks, we don’t need to be reminded of this every day. My husband and I decided from day 1 of our marriage that we would not have cable. We don’t want to see all the poo this world offers. Everyone feels differently. If you do have cable, maybe you can choose not to watch the news for a while and see how you feel? + 10 Happiness

“I’m walking on the sunshine…” Vitamin D is essential for happiness. If you live in an area where it rains often, you may want to look into Vitamin D supplements, but if the sun is out then you need to get out! +10 Happiness

Unplug yourself. Try living in the moment rather than trying to tweet pictures of every constant thing you see. One person wrote “The concept of always being reachable without any way to escape has become commonplace in our new digital society.” That is a scary thought. Not being able to escape. If you think about it, it’s true! You become so attached to electronics and networks that you feel compelled to check every few minutes if you have a text or voice mail. I find myself clicking that top little bottom of my iPhone consistently. On a day that I can’t find my phone (which happens too often) I feel relieved. It feels nice to not be reachable. You should try it! + 10 Happiness

Do more for others. There is more happiness in giving than there is in receiving. Maybe all you can do is call your grandparents. You will be surprised how happy they are to hear from you! I LOVE spending time with my great grandma (Yes she is still alive and full of life). I paint her nails, and take her shopping. I have so much fun with her because I know it means a lot to her. Of course my first choice wouldn’t be to spend my afternoon in the petite older ladies section of JC Penny’s. LOL. I have so much joy in finding her cute outfits to try on. Even if your circumstances are different, you could try fostering an animal who needs love, or just simply go out of your way to bring someone you love some flowers or write a “thinking of you” card. +20 Happiness

7 benefits you didn’t know about having Pets

You have heard the term “ An apple a day will keep the doctor away…” Is it true a pet a day will keep the doctor away?

I have ALWAYS been a huge animal lover. After my traumatic pregnancy with our son, that is when I really found that out about myself. I have a Dog named Jack, he is a black lab pit mix. Then we have our little kitty Wendy. There are so many benefits to having animals and most of those benefits people aren’t aware of. Take a look!

Immunity: Children who live with Dogs or Kitty’s from infancy or less likely to develop animal allergies later in life or asthma. Though it is not certain but researchers suspect that early exposure to pet allergens can actually help the immune system. It could help your child build up an immunity. How awesome is that! Better start that back yard Zoo you always dreamed of!

Therapy: What is pet therapy? The use of trained animals and handlers to achieve specific physical, social, cognitive, and emotional goals with patients; also called animal-assisted therapy or AAT. Pet therapy has been known to lessen depression, anxiety and fatigue. My son Conner and our dog Jack are best pals. When Conner began having a seizure one day we laid him next to Jack. The fur and emotion for Jack helped Conner come out of his seizure quicker. I have seen firsthand what the power of animal connection can do.

Blood Pressure: Did you know that just by petting your cat or dog, you can lower your blood pressure Cholesterol? Researchers looked at nearly 4,500 adults and found that cat ownership was related to a 40 percent lower risk of suffering a fatal heart attack.

Love Connection: Forget dating sites just take your dog for a walk! Dogs are great conversation starters. This can really help ease people out of social isolation or shyness, The conversation can stay grounded at the dog or it can turn into “I do” who knows…lol. Hasn’t anyone seen 101 Dalmatians???

Weight watcher: A research was done with 2,000 adults. The adults who owned a dog were much less likely to become obese because they felt more motivated to walk their dog. We all could you a little motivation right?

Mental Security: Just knowing that you have a dog that barks is enough to help you fall into a good deep sleep. I have found myself scared and nervous when my dog isn’t with me at night for one reason or another.

Service: For the disabled, or mentally challenged, having an animal to help guide them or service them in some way is just amazing. Dogs can be trained to sense seizures, sense an autistic melt down, help an elderly person who has fallen or is lost. There are so many things animals are capable of doing. It is just incredible.

Such a large majority or animals are killed everyday because of animal shelters being over crowded. How sad it is to think about what great benefits these animals can bring, and they are being killed because nobody wants them. I am a huge advocate for rescue animals!

I think its time you head down to your local animal shelter and adopt, dont you?

5 seizure triggers you haven’t thought of…

5 seizure triggers you haven’t thought of…

Seizure: “A seizure is the physical findings or changes in behavior that occur after an episode of abnormal electrical activity in the brain. The term “seizure” is often used interchangeably with “convulsion.” Convulsions are when a person’s body shakes rapidly and uncontrollably.”

One in 26 people in the United States will develop epilepsy at some point in their lifetime.

Are there things that you can avoid for yourself or a loved one who suffers from seizures? YES!

  1. Sounds.I have found that a lot of people complain of sudden, or loud sounds triggering a seizure. I know this is true because if things get too loud around my son he becomes overwhelmed and ends up having seizures. I resorted to buying my son headphone to block out sound. Here is the link to buy a pair for a child. This is the same pair Conner has that he wears every day. http://funandfunction.com/noise-reduction-ear-muff.html
  2. Extreme temperatures have been made known to actually make seizures come on. We live in a valley and during the Summer it can become extremely hot. Some people have noticed that either very hot or very cold atmosphere can trigger seizures. Have you found this relatable? Maybe try to stay out of that crazy weather silly! J
  3. Light Fixtures. Obviously the most common trigger you have heard or noticed is flashing lights, but did you know fluorescent lighting flashes so fast you can’t realize it but your eyes see it! You will find fluorescent lighting in a lot of stores and businesses. Obviously this is hard to avoid. We got our son special tinted glasses. The effectiveness of wearing a tinted lens depends on both the color of the lens as well as the intensity of the hue of the lens (and therefore the light transmission).  Several studies show that blue-tinted lenses may help reduce the photoparoxysmal response…thereby reducing the number of seizures.  Some patients and their doctors may not realize that this tint can be worn in a contact lens instead of in spectacle lenses. Have your ophthalmologist test your pupils with different shaded colors. Conner’s most effective color is brown/red.
  4. Over Stimulation. Putting more stress on a person with epilepsy can cause seizures for sure. My son will most likely have autism, so he hates water. Whenever I give him a bath he gets stressed and seizes. He is G-tube fed, so whenever I try to feed him by mouth he gets nervous. I try to do everything calmly and slowly ease him into it. The key is to keep track of what triggers the seizures. Everyone is different.
  5. Strong Scents. A year ago my son was relaxing and my daughter came into the living room and sprayed an air freshener. He instantly went into a grand mal seizure. From that point on we have been very careful to never have anything smelly around him. Sometimes it is unavoidable. People wear perfume, or you go into people’s homes and they have plug in’s on every wall…If you seem this may be I have found that if you MUST have smell good things around try essential oils. I have found that these all natural scent’s don’t affect our son! http://www.doterra.com/#/en/ourProducts/essentialOils/singleOils

Please share with me your thoughts and triggers you have found!

How to get the best out of your massage

How to get the best out of your massage…

  1. Don’t eat right before a massage.

Why? Laying on your front side can upset your stomach. Avoid eating just before so you are as comfortable as possible.

  1. Take valerian root 1 hour prior to massage (Dosing is different for every individual)

Why? Valerian Root is a calming herb that promotes relaxation. It’s my favorite calming remedy.

  1. Do not have anything scheduled prior to your massage or after.

Why? Rushing to your massage appointment can induce stress, and leaving from a relaxing massage into running errands and driving in traffic can take away the calming affects from your massage. Let it last, and go home!

  1. Relax your muscles and your mind

Why? Tightening up is counterproductive. So try your best to relax your mind and body.

  1. Communicate with your massage therapist when you are in discomfort

Why? You want to be comfortable enough with your therapist to feel okay with letting them know how you are feeling. If you just suffer through the pain, your massage will be a waste of time because you will feel stressed the entire time. YOU are paying them. Let them know “it hurts!”

  1. Drink extra water after your massage.

Why? “Deep tissue massage releases toxins from the muscles and into the blood stream. They assert that the water helps the kidneys and pancreas to process those toxins. “ –Huffington Post

  1. Lay on the massage table for a couple of minutes after the session is over.

Why? Sometimes you may experience light headedness. It’s best to lay open on the table and take in the aroma of the spa and adjust to how you feel.

  1. Stay on schedule with your massages.

Why? Staying on schedule with your massages whether it be once a week, every other week, or once a month. Massage is very beneficial to detox. For you other special needs parents out there, make sure you make this a priority. Take care of yourself, don’t forget!

10 great ways to calm down

10  great ways to calm down

  1. Put some ear buds in and listen to your favorite playlist

“Listening to music can have a tremendously relaxing effect on our minds and bodies, especially slow, quiet classical music. This type of music can have a beneficial effect on our physiological functions, slowing the pulse and heart rate, lowering blood pressure, and decreasing the levels of stress hormones.” Taken from http://psychcentral.com/

  1. Go outside and breathe

Spend at least ten minutes a day outside regardless of the weather.  Lay out side on the grass, park far away from the entrance of a store. As little as ten minutes spent outdoors, daily, can be a quick mood booster. Pay closer attention to all the little details.

  1. Go for jog around the block

A recent study appears to confirm that exercise can reduce anger. According to Nathaniel Thom, astress physiologist, “exercise, even a single bout of it, can have a robust prophylactic effect” against the buildup of anger. If you are not into exercising, just try walking and taking in the nature around you.

  1. Spend time with your animals

People and animals have shared a strong bond. This bond has been a source of relief for those who suffer physical or emotion pain. My dog Jack has been a great relief for me when I am upset. Our family goes through a lot of different emotions because our specials needs son. Having Jack has helped make a huge difference.

5. Take a bubble bath

The warm water can help relax your muscles since I am sure you have realized your muscles instantly tighten when upset. I know mine do! I love to go into my bathroom, light a couple of candles (I prefer Lavender) and let the warm water overtake my muscles. Don’t forget to lock the door! Not the best time for your kids to barge in bugging you about not finding their box of crayons!!

  1. Take a drive to your favorite store (even just to window shop)

This may not be for everyone, but I find that taking a trip to world market and looking around at all of the neat things they have, and the smell of the store just seems to do the trick every time!

  1. Aromatherapy

Smell is the strongest of the senses and is best able to influence brain activity. Olfactory bulbs are part of the limbic system and directly connect to the areas of the brain that process emotion and learning. Try smelling Lavender, Lemon, Jasmine, and Rosemary.

  1. Watch a feel good movie

Watching something that makes you feel good is great way to escape reality for a little while. I tend to watch my favorite romantic comedy’s when I am upset and I always find that it helps.

  1. Write it out

Taking all of your anger, or stress out on paper is a good way to let it all out! I know I have used this exercise and its helps me a lot. Don’t stare at your paper scared you will hurt its feelings, let it out already!

  1. Immerse yourself in what you love to do

Distraction is a wonderful way to get away from that angry monster behind you, especially if it’s something you love because then your whole mind is focused on doing the activity and NOT what made you upset.

OH WAIT I FORGOT ONE! Here is a freebie…

11. Get your hair done!

If you can afford it, getting your done done can be so calming. I love when my hair dresser washes my hair and then I leave looking great. Join eSalon for free.
